Before you call
One call should be enough to hear both prices and book. Here is what makes that happen, and what happens on the call itself.
Have your ticket number ready.
If what you want is your airline on the phone, this is the wrong number.
We can't reach them for you, we can't chase a refund, and we can't argue a claim. Their number is on your confirmation email.
Before you call — four things
- Your ticket or confirmation number. The 13-digit ticket number if you have it, the 6-character booking code if you do not.
- The new dates you want, and how far they can move. "The 14th" and "sometime that week" price very differently.
- Whether any part of the trip has been flown.
- Who is travelling — names as they appear on the ticket, and how many.
Have these on screen or on paper. It is the difference between one call and two.
What to say when we pick up
I have an international ticket I need to move. Can you price the change and a new ticket, so I can compare?
That is the whole opening. You will be asked for your ticket number first.
What happens on the call
You give the ticket number and the dates you want. The agent looks at the fare on your ticket and at what is still selling on those dates, and comes back with two numbers: what moving the ticket you hold would cost, and what a new ticket on the dates you want would cost.
You pick one, or you pick neither. If you decide to book, the agent issues the ticket on the call and the confirmation goes to your email. Any fee for the service is named before anything is charged, and nothing is charged without you saying yes.
Whether an existing booking can be modified at all depends on how and where it was issued — that is one of the first things the agent checks. What can always be done is price the alternative and issue a new ticket.
